Shikhar Dhawan, a senior player on the Indian cricket team, was a little surprised when he found out that he wouldn’t be part of the Indian squad for the Asian Games. But don’t worry, he’s still determined to get back in action for the national team.

You see, the big cricket tournament called the ODI World Cup is coming up, and the main players are getting ready for it. Because of that, the Indian cricket board, which we call BCCI, chose some younger players to play in the Asian Games happening in China soon.

Dhawan, who is 37 years old and good at batting with his left hand, was supposed to lead the “B-team” in China as he did some months ago. But the people who chose the players, called selectors, decided to give the captain role to Ruturaj Gaikwad instead.

“When I found out I wasn’t on the team for the Asian Games, I was a bit surprised. But then I thought, well, they have their reasons, and I should just accept it,” Dhawan said when he talked to a news agency called PTI on Thursday. He’s actually happy that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the team. Dhawan believes the younger players in the team will do a good job.

Now, it seems like the Indian team is moving forward without Dhawan. Other players like Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are taking the lead. Dhawan used to play only one kind of cricket, but then he was left out after the Bangladesh tour in 2022.

But Dhawan is not giving up. He’s really positive and thinks that if a chance comes his way, he’ll be ready for it. “I’m always prepared for a comeback. That’s why I keep myself fit and in shape. You never know when an opportunity knocks on your door, even if it’s just a small chance,” he said. Dhawan respects the decisions made by the cricket people.

If he doesn’t get to play for the national team again, Dhawan is excited about playing for his team in a big Indian cricket league called IPL. He also wants to show his skills in other cricket tournaments, like Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, before the IPL starts.

Dhawan mentioned that he hasn’t talked to the selectors about his future plans yet. He enjoys spending time at the National Cricket Academy, where players train. He’s thankful for how the academy has helped him in his cricket career.

So, even though Dhawan didn’t make it to the Asian Games team this time, he’s still wearing a smile. He’s keeping his options open and is all set to shine in the cricket world, whether it’s for the national team, the IPL, or other exciting tournaments.
